Peace and Conflict Resolution Plus Fundamental Human Rights Without Discrimination

The Know Your Rights Project which aimed to reduce police brutality in Bauchi Metropolis by at least 20% through increased knowledge and proper application of civil rights by rightsholders as well as understanding of steps and ways to resolve conflict among citizens as enshrined in the constitution. Has continued to build the capacity of the project beneficiaries through facilitation of workshop event aimed to strengthen their abilities on key methods for achieving peace and resolving conflicts. These includes intersection of democracy, human rights, gender, poverty, and governance. Recognizing if these were strengthened in the state, negotiation processes and approaches will be communicated more smoothly with the idea of equality before the law and the principle of non-discrimination as understood by international human rights law.

 

In cognizance to the fact that majority of civil unrest may be triggered by a broad number of circumstances, some of which include a collision of values, a confrontation of identities, injustice or unfairness, religious ideology, scarce resources, a clash of ideology or beliefs and tribal clashes. During the workshop, participants identified crucial stakeholders that can support to curtail civil unrest. Participants identified how to engage these key stakeholders in the fight against discrimination of human rights. Recognizing if these stakeholders play an active role in creating an environment that is conducive to sustainable development, peaceful coexistence, meaningful progress, and respect for human rights, then it will be possible to fulfill the need for conflict management.
